1. How do I get started with HealthTalent?

To get started with HealthTalent, you will need to submit an application to HealthTalent. When you submit your application we will verify your nursing credentials to insure you are a qualified professional and experienced nurse. After verification, your Nurse Recruiter will contact you within one business day to discuss staffing assignments available.

2. What are the requirements to start working with HealthTalent?

The criteria to become a traveling nurse is a degree from an accredited nursing program in the United States or Canada and one year of clinical experience in your specialty. If you do not have this experience, your Nurse Recruiter can discuss your options and will explain what you will need to do to become eligible. You will also need to provide a valid professional practice license or certification, and proof of the right to work in the United States. If you are a nurse from outside of the United States, then HealthTalent will work with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to obtain a green card for you (see more about the Steps to Working in the U.S.).

3. Am I under any obligation when I submit an application?

No. Your application is simply used to qualify you for travel so that if and when you are ready we can match you with an assignment. Once your credentials are verified, you will have the opportunity to explore available assignments and will work with your Nurse Recruiter to find the assignments you want. As a professional courtesy, we ask that prior to giving us your approval to submit your profile to a specific assignment you notify us of any other assignments you are considering elsewhere. Once you have selected a specific assignment and given your approval to submit your profile to them, we will arrange an interview. Once you have given this approval, if the hospital makes an offer and the assignment begins within the appropriate timeframe you are professionally obligated to accept the assignment..

4. When do I start to prepare for an assignment?

Normally, we recruit for domestic assignments one month prior to the start date, so it's best to start as soon as possible. Even if you're only curious about available assignments, send in your application now so you won't miss out on an assignment that might be ideal for you. The lead-time for international nurses wishing to work in the U.S. is considerably longer due to the immigration approval process.

5. Is there a fee to enroll for a placement on an assignment?

No. There is never a fee to enroll for placement on assignments or a fee for accepting new assignments.

6. How does HealthTalent stay in business if they don't collect fees?

We provide a service to hospitals and clinics by staffing dedicated professional nurses to fill temporary positions. Fees to our clients allow us to pay top wages and benefits to our nurses while providing those highly skilled employees so hard to find in today's job market.

7. What are the benefits of becoming a HealthTalentnurse?

HealthTalent International nurses are among the most highly paid in the traveling industry. Each assignment is different depending on location, length of assignment and specialty needed. For more detailed information on compensation and benefits, visit the compensation and benefits page or contact us at (866) 856-9494.

8. How much will I be paid and how often?

Pay rates depend on the facility and location, however they will be competitive by region. Many facilities offer sign up or completion bonuses. Travelers may choose to have their pay check directly deposited into an account or receive their paychecks every two weeks via overnight mail. All of these details will be made clear long before you accept an assignment.

9. What do I need to do to get started?

Getting started is easy. Simply go to the Apply Now! page and follow the directions to apply online, with a paper application or with a quick call to (866) 856-9494.

Remember, the sooner you submit an application, the sooner we can start you on the road to traveling adventure. Remember, you don't have to accept any assignments at this time. You can explore your options to work and travel in new and exciting locations!!

10. How do I choose an assignment?

Once HealthTalent has reviewed your application and skills, you and your assigned Nurse Recruiter will discuss what to expect from your travel assignment. Then you will be presented with available assignments based on your position and shift preferences. You will also be given a complete description of the facility, unit, area, salary and available bonuses. Together, you choose the assignment that's right for you. It's always your choice.

11. Will you have an assignment anywhere I want to go?

Not always, however, if we don't have your specific position in the location of your choice, we will contact facilities in that area to present your credentials and search for an available assignment.

12. What happens when I submitted to a hospital for an assignment?

A copy of your paperwork with your selected start date, unit, and shift will be sent to the facility for their review, along with a time for the facility to call you for a telephone interview. Prior to the interview, it's a good idea to prepare a list of any questions you may have about the unit in which you'll be working. We want you to be comfortable with your assignment from the very beginning.

13. How long will it take to be approved and choose an assignment?

This depends on you and how quickly you want to move. For U.S. resident nurses, you could begin your first assignment within 2 weeks. Some nurses schedule their assignments 1 to 2 months in advance. For international nurses, once you pass your NCLEX exam and obtain your visa (see Steps to Working in the U.S.), you can begin in 4 to 6 weeks. Again, it is important that you take the first step and submit your application to allow us time to verify your credentials.

14. When have I made a commitment to accept an assignment?

As a professional courtesy, we ask that throughout the process you keep us informed of other assignments you are considering elsewhere. Once you have selected a specific assignment and given your approval to submit your profile to them, we will arrange an interview. Once you have given this approval, if the hospital makes an offer and the assignment begins within the appropriate timeframe you are professionally obligated to accept the assignment.

15. How will HealthTalent prepare me for my assignment?

Once you have decided on the assignment that's right for you, your Nurse Recruiter will confirm your start date, shift, unit and salary. Shortly thereafter, you will receive a confirmation package in the mail with information pertaining to your assignment. We will then prepare you for your arrival. All you need to do is pack your bags!

16. How do I get to my assignment?

It's best to drive, have your vehicle transported to your assignment or allow us to coordinate and compensate you for a rental car, since you'll want to explore your new surroundings and go sight seeing on your days off. If, however, you accept an assignment in a major city where parking is scarce and ample public transportation is readily available, you can probably do without a car. Regardless of how you choose to get to your assignment, we will provide you with a generous travel allowance.

17. How do I find out about and qualify for license requirements in the state in which I accept an assignment?

Your Nurse Recruiter will advise you on the specific requirements and the length of time necessary to obtain a license in the state you have chosen to take an assignment. In some states, the procedure is lengthy, so you will need to plan ahead. Find out more about RN State Licensing information.

18. What happens at the end of an assignment?

After you have completed your assignment, depending on the facility you may have the option to extend your assignment, travel to another exciting assignment, apply for a permanent position at the facility, or return home, perhaps to travel again at a later date.

19. Can I travel with family, friends, or pets to my assignments?

Yes. Traveling with another health care professional, spouse, or any close friend will allow you to share the travel experiences of a lifetime.

20. What about housing at my new assignment?

Our Housing and Travel Department will make all the arrangements for you. All you have to do is pick up the key! We pride ourselves on making your home away from home the very best available in the industry. With safe, comfortable, attractive apartment complexes located as near as possible to your assignment hospital. Your apartment will come with a standard furniture package and utilities all pre-arranged for you. You may upgrade the furniture package or request a housewares package that we can coordinate at your expense. Your rent is provided for you as part of the assignment, so there's no monthly rental expense to worry about! Of course, if you'd prefer, you can select your own housing using our generous housing allowance.

21. Is the housing free?

Yes, it is included as part of your pay. Your deluxe housing is free when you travel with HealthTalent. Also, once you select a destination, our Housing and Travel Department will do all the work to secure furnished housing in a neighborhood close to your facility.
